GAS SUPPLY

A SERIOUS POSITION The gas supply in Oamaru yesterday was more serious than it has been for some time past, and had it not been for the co-operation of the New Zealand Express Company, the Westport Coal Company, and Messrs Ireland and Co., the supply of gas would have ceased at mid-day. An urgent message to the authorities was responsible for the diverting of three trucks of coal to Oamaru yesterday morning, and this supply considerably eased the position. The authorities also stated that a further supply would be forthcoming within a few days. Provided stocks can be maintained, the pressure of gas should not be affected.
