FIRE BRIGADE
ANNUAL REPORT The annual report of the Oamaru Volunteer Fire Brigade stated that during the year the brigade was called out on 11 occasions, comprising one chimney Arc, three grass and hedge fires, two false alarms, three dwellings, one tar boiler, and one fowlhouse. There was only one serious outbreak, that at the Club Hotel. The interest of the Fire Board in the activities of the brigade had been very helpful, and the action of the board in endeavouring to maintain the standard of the equipment under difficult conditions was appreciated by all members. Ambulance classes, under Mr J. Kearns, were continued during the winter months, and the report extended thanks to Mr Kearns for his work in this direction, and also to the honorary surgeon, Dr R. S. Orbell. The roll of the brigade was now two officers, one honorary surgeon, and 14 firemen. During the year the resignations of Firemen A. Aikenhead and J. E. Stringer had been received. Motorman Macgregor and Firemen C. A. Nightingale and F Nightingale had taken up duty again, and with the addition of Firemen T. E. Goodall, E. J. Goodall, and D. S. Kearns, former members of the E. the roll was nearing full strength . The following members had qualified for service honours during the year, and these will be presented at the annual reunion. to be held on Saturday night:— Two-year gold bars, Superintendent T. Herron and Foreman T. Nightingale; fiveyear silver medals and bars—Motorman P. McGregor, Firemen F. Nightingale and R. L. Brown; two-year silver bars, Firemen J. B. Martin and C. A. Nightingale: three-year certificates—Firemen T. E. Goodall, E. J. Goodall, and D. S. Kearns. Annual Meeting
The annual meeting of the Fire Brigade was held on Monday night. Superintendent T. Herron presided. The election of officers resulted as follow’s:—Treasurer, Superintendent T. Herron; secretary, Deputy Superintendent R. Hinkley; honorary surgeon, Dr R. S. Orbell; senior foreman, J. Henderson; Billiards Committee— Messrs MacGregor, L. Park, T. E. Goodall. E. J. Gould, and G. Souness; Social Committee —Messrs T. Nightingale, J. Henderson, C. Sullivan, C. Nightingale, H. Brant, and V E. Doran; auditors, Messrs T. Nightingale and C. Sullivan.
A contribution of £5 5s w'as received from the Majestic Theatre, through the manager, Mr H. S. Williams.
