ELECTRICAL DISTURBANCES
WORST KNOWN TO SCIENCE (Rec.,B p.m.) OTTAWA, Mar. 28: Sunspots played havoc with communications systems throughout Canada to-day in what experts declared to be the worst such disturbances electrical science had ever experienced. Telephone and telegraph communications were all heavily affected by the electro-magnetic disturbances, which jumbled letters in transmission and also prevented long distance telephoning. A spokesman for the Hayden Planetarium said the aurora was likely to last a further six days. The transAtlantic aeroplane service, overseas communications, and weather bureau reports were %all.. adversely affected. The Planetarium official explained that the sunspots usually take a fortnight to move across the sun, and added that we are approaching the sunspot maximum. About every 11 years the spots are particularly numerous and we are now nearing that period.
