, Ministerial The Minister of Defence, Mr F. Jone*. left yesterday on his return to Wellington. ' At a meeting of the executive of the Old Stone, Union Street, and Normal Schools’ ■- Ex-pupils' Association on Wednesday night it was decided, on the motion of the chairman, Mr W. Rutherford, to place on record the valuable services given to the association by Mr W. J. Strong over a long period of year&. Mr Strong, who now resides in Christchurch, paid a visit fo Dunedin to take part in the celebrations marking the ninety-eighth anniversary of the province of Otago. Mr A. H. Crawshaw, of this city, has received from the Air Department precise information as to the resting-place of his son. Flight Sergeant R. A. Crawshaw, whose aircraft was shot down by a German fighter on August 16, 1943. The bodies of the occupants of the plane were accorded a military funeral in St. Leonaire Cemetery. Aiencon, but were subsequently exhumed by ,an American unit and re-interred in the St. Corneille Cemetery, near Le Mans. An interesting ceremony took place* at the Roslyn Mills yesterday when, representatives of the wool' and allied sections met to bid farewell to Mr George Aikman. who had tendered his resignation after 50 years’ service’with the firm of Ross and Glendining, Ltd. Mr F. S. Laycopk expressed the good wishes of bis fellowworkers to Mr Aikman. and handed him tangible evidence of their regard for him. Mr J. Sutherland Ross, chairman of directors, wished Mr and Mrs Aikman health and happiness in their retirement, and indicated the recognition the directors were giving to an old and highly-valued servant of the company. Mr Aikman, in returning thanks, referred to the growth of the mill in his long period of service and recounted various interesting epi sodes of the early days.
