CHILD'S ACCIDENTAL DEATH

The adjourned inquest on Lana Faye Neason, aged 14 months, who died as a result of getting her head caught in a gate at her home at Ravensbourne, was concluded yesterday before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., sitting as coroner. Constable Whitty gave evidence of having examined the gate. The two bars between which the child’s head was caught were seven inches apart at the top, narrowing to three inches at the bottom. Witness also produced a statement by the child’s mother as to the finding of the child unconscious, with her head caught in the gate. The magistrate said it was a most distressing occurrence. He could only find that the child was accidentally asphyxiated through getting her head caught in a gate. There was nothing the child s mother could have done to avoid the tragic consequences of the accident.
