ATHLETIC FOOTBALL CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING Mr D. Burns (president) was in the chair at the annual meeting of the Athletic Football Club on Tuesday night. Mr Burns commented on ihe activities of the club during the last season, complimenting the players who had turned out in the Junior, Third, and Fourth Grades regularly, despite the difficult times. He referred to the juniors missing play on five Saturdays last season, which, he said, was not very encouraging to them. He hoped the union would make the draw at the beginning of this season and adhere to it.

The annual report and balance sheet, which showed a credit on the year’s working, were adopted. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr James Grant, the only living member of the 1888 team; president, Mr D. Burns; senior vice-president, Mr C. Taylor; junior vice-president, Mr W. Budd; vice-presidents, 34 elected; secretary and treasurer, Mr D. Lawrie; subscription treasurer, Mr W. Budd; auditor, Mr M. F. E. Cooney; trustees, Messrs D. Burns and C. Taylor; club captain, Mr R. Turvey; Emergency Committee— Messrs D. Burns, R. Turvey, and D. Lawrie; delegates to the North Otago Rugby Union—Messrs D. Burns, R. Turvey, C. Taylor, and W. Budd; General Committee—Messrs M. Connors, E. McLeod, E. Hammill, R. Young, L. Tavendale, S. Black, J. Mather, L. Campbell, R. Turvey, and B. Smith.

The General Committee was empowered to call a special meeting of the club during the winter for the purpose of electing a committee to make arrangements for the club's sixtieth jubilee in 1946. \ Ten new members were elected. The opening practice was fixed for April 7. A recommendation was passed to the club delegates to inquire at the annual meeting of the union into the question of the grade status of members returned from overseas. It was staled that there seemed to be some doubt as to what grade returned servicemen would be allowed to play in, and one way to get over the difficulty was to enter senior teams.
