PRESIDENT MENACED

ASSASSINATION PLANNED HAVANA, Mar. 17. The President of Cuba. Dr Ramon Grau San Martin, announced that the revolutionary plot had been primarily aimed at his assassination and alsa that of the army chief of stall'. Major-general Perez. The plot was hatched by capitalists who had business deals with the Batista regime. The authorities thus far have been unable to prove that Colonel Batista, who is at present visiting the United States, is involved, but some members of Congress are implicated. The assassination had been prepared for March 17, but the Government had known of the plot for 20 days, and at one time it had considered proclaiming a state of emergency to remove the parliamentary immunity of the Congressmen involved. General Gomez, army Adjutant-general, had been invited to join the plotters, but General Gomez informed Dr Grau. Those arrested will be tried in the civil courts.
