NIPPED IN THE BUD

A CUBAN CONSPIRACY HAVANA, Mar. 16. The Presidential Palace announces that a conspiracy against the Cuban Government has been suppressed. Eighty people were arrested. Amung those taken into custody in connection with the conspiracy against the Government were Colonel Jose Pedraza, a former army chief who once attempted to unseat Colonel Fulgencio Batista, President Grau San Martin's predecessrr, and who is believed to be one of the leaders of the conspiracy, and also Colonel Angel Alonso, once chief of Colonel Batista’s military household. The authorities said they believed the plot was hatched abroad after Dr Grau had dismissed army, navy, and police officers who had served under Colonel Batista.

It was reported that Colonel Pedraza landed from a schooner which sailed fr:m Mexico laden with munitions. Dr Grau's spokesman said there was a Jink between the conspiracy and the finding, on March 15. on a lonely road, of the body of Eugenio Llanillo, Colonel Batisla's personal friend and attorney, who was shot through the head. Llanillo was believed to have been originally involved in the plot, but broke with the conspirators.
