INDUSTRIAL FACILITIES

NATIONAL SURVEY UNDERTAKEN QUESTIONNAIRE DISTRIBUTED In order to gather information about the facilities offering in each town for the establishment of industries, a questionnaire is being distributed to local authorities by the Organisation for National Development. The questionnaire covers such matters as would normally have to be considered by a lirm when deciding the location of a new factory. Knowledge of these points in relation to each town will assist the organisation's investigations into methods of promoting a better distribution of manufacturing industries. The questions relate to available labour, transport facilities, raw materials, annual rates, cost of industrial sections, power, housing, unused plant and machinery. and public amenities. Regional Planning Councils, where formed, will conduct the survey as outlined in the questionnaire. Elsewhere. until these councils arc set up to supervise this survey, the city or borough authorities are being asked to begin preliminary investigations and to furnish available information. The reports will be examined by a special industrial committee which includes representatives of the Municipal Association of New Zealand and the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation. Although towns with populations of fewer than 1000 will not receive a questionnaire, they may submit this information to the Organisation for National Development if they so desire.
