BOMBER ATTACKS
THAILAND AND BURMA RAIDS ON ENEMY AIRFIELDS RUGBY, Feb. 8. Liberator bombers dropped three tons of bombs on an ordnance plant at Bangkok, in Thailand, starting many fires, says a communique issued by General J. Stilwell, commander of the United States forces in the Far East. Mitchells carried out sweeps over IndoChina, destroying trains and railway bridges and strafing industrial buildings.
Bombers of the Allied Strategic Air Force, Eastern Command, attacked Heho and Aungban airfields, 90 miles to the south-east of Mandalay, for the second time in 24 hours on Saturday night, states-a communique from Southeast Asia headquarters. American medium bombers attacked the same targets on Saturday morning and inflicted further damage. A Japanese interceptor fighter during the Heho raid crashed into a mountainside.
R.A.F. dive-bombers of the Tactical Air Force yesterday attacked Taung Bazaar and Badana, eight miles to the north-east of Buthidaung. Land forces continued to engage the enemy. In the Tiddim area on Sunday British forces twice ambushed parties of Japanese and inflicted considerable casualties. That night they consolidated the ground gained, and active patrolling was carried out.
