JAPANESE IN AMERICA
DISLOYAL ELEMENTS BILL FOR EXPULSION (Rec. 10 p.m.) WASHINGTON. Feb. 8. Mr B. W. Gearhart, a Californian member ,of the House of Representatives, introduced a Bill to rid America of disloyal Japanese. The Bill would require persons of Japanese descent to take an oath declaring their disbelief in Emperor Hirohito’s divine character and ancestry, and promising to defend America against her enemies, including the Japanese. Mr Gearhart said that 2772 Japanese had already formally requested their deportation to Japan, and an additional 9000 were reported to have asked the Spanish Embassy to arrange for their return, presumably for military service.
