NEW ENEMY FIGHTER
THE “ TOJO ” IN ACTION (Rec. 11 p.m.) SYDNEY. Feb. 8. The Japanese used their latest type of fighter in an attempt to smash Friday’s Allied raid on Rabaul. The new enemy fighter, known as the “ Tojo,” closely resembles the American Brewster Buffalo, and it is powered by a single radial engine. Further details have not been disclosed. The new plane has been observed in small numbers by Allied airmen in the South-west Pacific during the.past two months, but this is its first official mention. It has not operated in any strength and usually has been flown with Zeros.
The Brewster Buffalo, used by the R.A.F. in East Asia, including Malaya, has a long range, but in combat lias proved inferior to Japanese fighters.
