Lawn Tennis Club.—At the ebnual meeting of the Alexandra Lawn Tennis Club the president, Mr J. H. was in the chair. The al ? n u al re P°F* balance sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows President, Mr H. G. Sutton; vice-presidents—Messrs F. R. Whitelock, J. H. Hart and Miss S. Cameron; secretary, Mr A. N. Rivers; hon. auditor, Mr F. R. Whitelock; club captain, Mr J. H. Hart; committee—Executive officers and Mesdames E. Russell, J. HMcKellar, Misses B. Moir and D. Beilby and Mr J. R. Earwaker; convener of ladies’ section, Miss S. Cameron. It was decided to hold the opening day on October 23. _ , , Soldiers Honoured.—On Saturday evening last residents met to honour Private A. Kinnaird. Mr E. J. Iversen made the usual presentation. On Monday evening in the Alexandra Hall a function was held in honour of Sergeant J. Barton and Privates Hugh Campbell and R. Smith. The Mayor, Mr A. McKellar, made the customary presentation and extended best wishes. He also made a presentation to Private Campbell from the residents of Chatto Creek. Mr J. R. McKissock, president of the R.S.A., extended best wishse on behalf of his organisation. No Frost Fighting.—Orchardists have this year been very fortunate in that up to the present they have had to do no frost fighting. On several nights the prospects have not been good, but the only actual frost so far was one of 2deg. on Monday morning. The adjacent mountains have still a good coating of snow. Music Recital.—An appreciative audience was present in the Town Hall on Friday night for the recital by the pupils of Miss Islay McKellar. Miss McKellar had arranged an excellent programme, consisting of pianoforte solos, duets, and trios, songs, recitations, and dancing. The proceeds, amounting to £26, were given to the patriotic funds. Ail Purposes Appeal.—The Alexandra town quota of £905 has now been oversubscribed by more than £SO, with several small amounts to come in. Each year since the collections were started the district has over-subscribed its quota. Bowling.—On Saturday last the local club held a successful progressive pairs tournament, the winners being J. Middlemass (skip) and W. Park (lead).
