CROMWELL
Cold Snap.—A cold snap was experienced last Saturday, and a further fall of snow' coated the hills. There were a few light showers of rain, but the weather cleared quickly, and a northerly wind cleared the snow before Tuesday. Lawn Tennis Tournament. —A lawn tennis tournament for school children was held last Saturday, 30 children taking part. The tournament was held in two divisions, the first being won by Derek Simpson and Margaret Hosking, and the second by Dick Rusbatch and Gaynor Mitchell. Personal—At the quarterly meeting of the officials of the Methodist Church regret was expressed at the resignations of Mr Winn, who was a valued member of the church, and Mrs Winn, president of the Ladies’ Guild. Mr and Mrs Winn will be leaving the district shortly. Unusual Visitor.—An unusual visitor to the district, a long-tailed cuckoo, was seen by a resident last Sunday at Ripponvale. The bird was very timid, and the observer was unable to get close enough to study its movements. ~ , , , Sale Yards Committee.— Advice has been received bv Mr G. M. Stewart that the sale dates for January and March of next vear have been allocated to the Cromwell Sale Yards Committee. An offer to buy all the shares remaining unsold after the district has been canvassed has been made by a local resident.
