MILTON
Soldiers Entertained.—St. John’s Hall was the scene of a social gathering on Tuesday night, when Privates C. Fahey and F. Read were entertained. Items were given by Miss Wilma Crawford, Mrs Ruffel, and the Rev. L. T. Norwell (songs), Miss P. Campbell (recitations), and Bandsman S. Begg (cornet solos). Mrs L. Dennehv and Miss L. Keinan were the accompanists, and music for the dancing was supplied by Miss May Moffitt and Mr Ron Paul. The Mayor (Mr W. J. Cockburn) asked the guests to accept a monetary gift, and his remarks were endorsed by Mr C. Keinan (R.S.A.) and Mr Norwell (Ministers’ Association). There was a large attendance in the Helensbrook Hall the same evening, when Corporal C. Finch and Private E. Collings were honoured. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs C. Keinan and Mr F. Cheyne, and items were given by Misses L. Morgan, W. Crawford. L. Keinan, and N. Haynes and Mr E. Russell. On behalf of those present, Mr H. McFaul handed the guests a monetary gift. His remarks were endorsed by Mr G. Reay (R.S.A.) and Mr F. Haynes. Members of Court Bruce, A.0.F., called on Private F. Read and C.R. Sis. M. Marshall and made a presentation of a monetary gift. Other speakers were Bros. R. Price, A. J. Currie, M. E. Paul, J. Begg, and C. D. Stewart. Ladies’ Bowling Club.—The annual meeting of the Milton Ladies’ Bowling Club was held on Tuesday afternoon. The following officers were elected:—President, Mrs D. McDonald; vice-presidents, Mesdames Magee nad secretary, Mrs Walker; selectors—Mesdames Davidson. Wilson, and Miss Michelle.
