WANAKA
The Weather.—Dull and overcast days have been experienced during the past week, and there have been some light frosts at night. Golf—The following were the results of the weekly golf competitions:—Women’s Patriotic L.G.U. Match: Mrs Ewing 97 19—78, Mrs Palmer 99—19—80, Mrs Harris 89—8—81, Mrs Anderson 89—8—81, Mrs Morris 98—12—86, Mrs Morrow 107—20—87. Men’s Stroke Competition: A. Wilson 83— 19 —64, F. Jackson, sen., 85—17—68, G. Morris 90—20—70, F. Collings 84—12—72, F. Jackson, jun„ 84—12—72, C. Templeton 94—19—75, c. Ewing 106—27—79, R. Scott 92—14—78, J. Perrow 90—9—81. A committee meeting of the Wanaka Golf Club was held last week, and it was decided to hold the annual tournament on September 3 and 4, to be followed by a dance., Patriotic Committee.—A meeting of the Wanaka.Patriotic Committee was held in the Wanaka Hall on August 2. Mr W. Scaife presided. Since the outbreak of war nearly 2001 b of wool have been knitted into the following articles:—3so balaclavas, 230 scarves, 266 pairs of mittens, 48 pullovers, making a total of 894 articles. In addition, over 100 skull caps have been knitted. Mr W. Scaife moved that a letter of appreciation be sent to Mr J. Mayne in recognition of his services. Mr W, Scaife and the secretary, Mr K. Davie, were appointed delegates on the Lake Zone Committee, and were also appointed a central committee for local rehabilitation, with Messrs J. Robertson, G. L. Morris, G. Hall, J.. Hunt, D. Aubrey, and W. Studholme as advisory members. A dance in aid of the patriotic funds was held in the Wanaka Hall on Saturday night, the music being supplied by Mr F. Joyce, of Dunedin.
