SCHOOL BOXING

CHRISTIAN BROTHERS’ TOURNAMENT The annual boxing tournament of the Christian Brothers’ High School was held in His Majesty’s Theatre last night. There was a large attendance. There were 26 bouts, and a high standard of boxing skill was exhibited. The school championship, which provided the best contest for some years, was won by T. Ryan, who defeated E. Fitzgerald after a very even bout. C. O'Carroll, who gave an outstanding display of boxing and won the Senior Cup, was awarded the trophy for the most scientific boxer. The other cup awards were:—lntermediate, M. O’Brien; junior, K. Morland; midget, J. Fitzgerald: most improved boxer, J. Spiers; best loser, T. Fitzgerald. The Championship Cup was presented to the winner by the M.C. (Mr J. Kilmartin), who congratulated the competitors on their display. The referees were Messrs Kilmartin, R. M. Morris, and S. Brown. They also acted as judges, together with Mr A. Grainger. Messrs T. Long and H. W. Cockerill were the timekeepers. The following were the results: Midget.—W. Samson beat B. Adair. E. Leyden beat T. Vincent beat E. Wigg. O. McEntee beat D. Griffiths. J. Deane beat P. Thompson. A. Duncan beat W. Phillips. P. Falconer beat D. Lemon. K. Mcrland beat A. Velenski.

Intermediate.—B. Hogue beat J. Spiers. M. O'Brien beat D. Andrews. R. Fielding beat B. McKay. L. O’Gorman and T. Casey boxed a draw. R. Falconer beat B. Gibb. Senior.—N. O’Connor beat T. Boyle. M. Fitzgerald after a lively encounter. Ryan, who was the taller,. forced the fighting, but his aggressiveness was matched by Fitzgerald’s clean, straight hitting.
