ALEXANDRA
Bowling Club.— The annual meeting of the Alexandra Bowling Club was held on Thursday. There was a good attendance of members and the president, Mr James Harley, was in the chair. The balance sheet showed a net gain on the year’s working of £sl 15s sd. The president referred to the loss through death of two club members, Messrs J. B. Arnott and J. C, Miller, and a motion of sympathy with their relatives was carried. The Mayor, Mr A. McKellar, thanked the club for its efforts in helping the patriotic fund during the year. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr W. A. Bodkin, M.P.; president, Mr V. H. Galt; senior vice-president, Mr H. H. Kemp; junior vice-president, Mr W. H. King; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. Hewitt; assistant secretary, Mr W. J. Russell; auditor, Mr J. F. Jack; selector, Mr T. E. Sunderland; green supervisors— Messrs U. Miller and W. H. King; press steward, Mr E. Russell; Match Committee, Messrs T. E. Sunderland and W. Hewitt; Executive Committee—Messrs J. Middlemass, C. Robertson, E. V. King, J, H. McKellar, and R. Hewitt; Cards Committee—Messrs J. Middlemass, C. Symons, and W. Park; delegates to centre, president and secretary; Tournament Committee—President, secretary, vicepresident, secretary, assistant secretary, green supervisor, and E. Russell; club coach, Mr W. Hewitt. The executive was authorised to proceed with laying down five additional rinks in an endeavour to cope with the ever-increasing number of entries received for the annual tournament. A motion to allow Sunday play was defeated. Football.—ln a match on Saturday the Alexandra team defeated Cromwell by 21 points to nine. A seven-a-side tournament will be conducted at Alexandra by the Vincent Sub-union on September 11. School Sport,—A basketball team from Columba College spsnt a pleasant weekend at Alexandra. In 3 match against the High School team they won by 16—12. They also spent many happy hours on the ice. Next week-end the Alexandra District High School football and basketball teams will play matches against Middlemarch High School. Skating.—There are still eight inches of ice on the Lower Manorburn dam, and many skaters were out over the week-end. Frosts are still being experienced.
