QUEENSTOWN

Golf Club. —The annual meeting of Ihe UQueenstown Golf Club was held recently, Mr J. S. Royds (president) being in the chair. The balance sheet showed a credit of £3B 17s Bd. The . following officers were elected: President, Mr J. S. Royds; vice-presidents, Dr W. A. Anderson and Mr C. H. McKay: committee —Messrs A. Farrant, W. Robins, J. L. Lindsay,: P. Dougherty, R. J. Fuller; Ladies’ Committee—Mesdames J. S. Royds, R-. Mills, J. Thompson, and Miss McKenzie; club captain, Mr A, Farrant. Nurse Honoured. —Miss Mary Mclnnes, who has volunteered for service overseas as a nurse, was entertained at a dance in the Garrison Hall on Thursday last. Dr W. A. Anderson, chairman of the Soldiers’ Entertainment Committee, Mr T. S. Lonsdale on’ behalf of the local branch of the R.S.A., the Rev, D, K. Boyd, and Miss Davies, president of the Queenstown branch of the W.D.F.U.. extended their best wishes. Presentations were made to Nurse Mclnnes by the committee and the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Boer War Veteran’s Death.—Mr Andrew Simson, who has lived in Queenstown for about 30 years, died recently after a short illness. Born in Glasgow 81 years ago, he came to New Zealand with his parents as an infant. The family arrived in Auckland and subsequently came south and settled in Kaitangata. Mr Simson served in the Boer War and remained for some years in South Africa. Shortly after returning to New Zealand he came to Queenstown, where he followed various pursuits, eventually taking up fruitgrowing. He was a member of the Borough Council for seven years and was Mayor from 1917 till 1927. During his period of office electricity was installed in Queenstown. He was a member of the Management Committee 6f the Presbyterian Church, and a vice-president of the local R.S.A. His wife died 14 years ago. There were two children, Corporal H. Simson, who is on active service in Egypt, and Mrs J. Day, of Nelson.
