Golf.—On Saturday the second round of the Caldwell Cup was played on the Omakau links, and resulted in a win for C. Deaker with a score of 134. The next best cards returned were those of A. Prisk 138 and L. Harvey 144. Next Satur‘day a Stableford Match will be played. The ladies played the first round of the Beattie Rose Bowl competition, the best cards returned. being as follows:—Mra Butcher 104—40—74, Miss J. Harvey 96 19 — 77; Mrs Truesdale 113—33—80, Mrs Wellington 116—36—80, and Miss C. Harvey 92 IX 81. i Farewell Social.—A social and dance was held in the Omakau Hall on night last, when residents gathered to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs H. Lester and family, who, after residing in the district for 28 years, are leaving for Christchurc.i. The chairman, Mr H. Alpine, referred to the many activities with which Mr and Mrs Lester had been associated, and to the keen interest they had taken in all matters affecting the welfare of the district. In asking them to accept a cheque from the . residents, he expressed best wishes for their success in their new sohere. Presentations were also made on behalf St. Mary's Anglican Church bv the Rev. S. G. Hurd, who expressed thanks for the valuable services given by Mrs Lester as organist for many, years, and on behalf of the Vincent Jockey Club by Mr E. Naylor. Mr T. Duggan spoke on behalf of the residents of Matakanui. During the evening solos were sung by Mrs G. Naylor.
