DESIRE TO RESIGN

AMBASSADOR TOi "MOSCOW REPORT -OFFICIALLY DENIED (Rec. 9 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 29. According to well-informed sources, Admiral W. H. Standley, the United States Ambassador to Russia, told President Roosevelt that he desired to resign immediately, reports the Washington correspondent of the New York Times. The resignation, which was lodged the day Mr Joseph Davies arrived in Moscow, was reported to have been vigorous, the correspondent adds. It is understood that Admiral Standley is not pleased about American technique towards Russia, the correspondent says, and he feels that there should be a more vigorous assertion of America’s position. ,He is also displeased about the way American affairs have been conducted in Russia and feels that this procedure 1 has rendered His position futile. The last straw was when President Roosevelt sent Mr Davies to Moscow instead of transmit-, desire by Admiral Standley to resign the ambassadorship. The Washington correspondent of the Associated Press says that Mr Cordell Hull flatly denied knowledge of any dcsiit by Admiral Standley to resign ihe ambassadorship.
