UNITY OF NATIONS
THE RUSSIAN GESTURE DISSOLUTION OF COMINTERN (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, May 30. M. Stalin, in a statement to an agency correspondent, said that the dissolution of the Communist International “ facilitates the organisation of a common attack by all freedom-loving nations on the common enemy.’’ It facilitates the fusion of “ progressive forces,” regardless of party or religion, into “ a single camp of liberation.” This unity, M. Stalin believes, will clear the way to the future organisation of an equal comradeship of nations. Moreover, the abolition of the Comintern destroys the enemy argument that Moscow intends to intervene in the life of other nations and Bolshevise them. It can no longer be argued by Labour opponents of Communism that Communists obey outside orders. Finally, M. Stalin expresses confidence that all these circumstances will further strengthen the united front for victory over ihe Hitlerite tyranny. He describes the dissolution as timely because it is just now, when “ the Fascist blast ” is exerting its last strength, that it is necessary to organise a common, onslaught by the free-dom-loving countries to finish off the beast and deliver peoples from aggression. The London Evening Standard describes M. Stalin’s declaration as “a vigorous political initiative” and “a heartening endorsement of the hopes, to which Mr Chufchill and President Roosevelt have given frequent expression, of Allied collaboration in the peace.” It is recalled that both Mr Churchill and Mr Cordell Hull expressed satisfaction over the dissolution of the Comintern.
