Severe Frosts.—Frosts of up to 16deg are being experienced each night. Several local residents on Sunday last were venturesome enough at this early date to go skating on the third basin of the Lower Manorburn dam. Patriotic Committee.—The annual meeting of the Alexandra Patriotic Committee was held on Tuesday night, the Mayor, Mr A. McKellar, presidihg. The annual report showed that Alexandra had last year raised its quota for the All Purposes Appeal, and'to date £302 out of the quota of £905 had' been received. Farewell functions had been held for 116 soldiers, sailors, airmen, and nurses. The election of officers resulted:—Chairman, the Mayor (Mr McKellar); vice-chairman, Mr E. Russell; treasurer, Mr R. Steans; secretary, Mr W J. Russell; representative on the Vincent Zone Committee, Mr R. S. Kinnaird; representative on the District Relief Committee, Mr McKellar; waste materials convener, Mr D, R. Blyth. The General Committee was re-elected. It was reported that a number of young women had formed themselves into a committee to run monthly dances ' in aid of the funds, and it was decided to ask them to appoint a representative to the main committee. It was decided to make a special effort to raise the district quota by direct giving. It was also decided to have a Paddy s market on June 4. A special drive is, also to be made for suitable books for military camps. _ . ' A Flourishing Enterprise.—At the annual meeting of the Central Otago Electric Power Board, which was held at Alexandra on Tuesday, the annual report revealed that the board had assets totalling £205,376, and the net loan liability was £127,758, so that 41 per cent, of the total assets were free of debt. Fire Blight Control,—Fire blight was a serious menace to orchards in this district last season. The Department of Agriculture is alive to the danger, and on Thursday Mr G. Stratford, dsitrict supervisor for the department, gave two demonstrations on how to (cope with the disease, the first being conducted at an orchard in Alexandra in the morning and, the second at Earnscleugh in the afternoon. Personal. —At the annual meeting of the Central Otago Electric Power Board on Tuesday Mr W. Bringans, of Alexandra, was re-elected chairman for the fourteenth successive year. ( ’
