THE FRENCH EMPIRE DE GAULLE’S DECLARATION RUGBY, May 27. , General de Gaulle, in a-dramatic broadcast to France, said the unity,of the French Empire was at hand —unity which would liberate their country and restore it to grandeur. At last the moment had come when, the intense will of the nation, overcoming all obstacles, would bring about unity of the Empire. The spiritual unity of France had. already been re-created, and it was lip to the French to see that their chains were struck off from their own hands through common struggle and sacrifice. General de Gaulle spoke of the absurd divisions that separated the people of France, and said "they had paid heavily, enough for them ,to realise that they could only emerge from the abyss by forming one solid block.
