ORGAN RECITAL

The city organist. Dr V. E. Galway, gave another after-church organ recital in the Town Hall last night. He was assisted by the Technical College String Orchestra of 40 players, who were" under the conductorship of Mr Frank Callaway. The organ and the orchestra united in a performance of Handel’s “ Organ Concerto in G minor,” and also played in its original form the “ Solemn Melody,” by Walford Davies. The orchestra played " Retrospection ” and a short suite by Dr Vernon Griffiths, and gave the first performance of “A Ramble” for piano and strings, specially composed for it by Dr Galway. Organ items included Guilmant’s “ Introduction and Allegro ” from the first sonata, a choral prelude by Bach, a bracket of pieces by Fletcher and Rowley, and “A Paraphrase on a Handelian Air,” by Guilmant.
