SUPREME COURT
QUARTERLY SESSION OPENED The quarterly session of the Supreme Court was opened yesterday, his Honor Mr Justice Kennedy presiding. The following grand jury was empanelled:—Percy William Breen, Alexander Lawson Curie, James Renton, John Kernohan McAhan, Raymond Charles Chivers, William Palmer Birchall, John Robert Caiman, George Gladstone Dunn, William James Dowsett, Albert Dixon, Herbert Alfred Newall, William Dobson, Walter John Kerr, Stanley Owen Hughes, Ernest John Gray, Oswald Stanley Gilbert, Alfred Clifford St. Paul, Graham Laing Lothian, Gifford Alexander Laurenson, Charles Tasman Lee, Alexander Allen, Henry Felix Aburn, Harold Hugh Sykes. In his charge to the grand jury, his Honor said that there were four cases for consideration, the charges including the unlawful use of an instrument with intent to procure a miscarriage, theft and attempted theft, indecent assault and exposure, and using obscene language in a public place. His Honor went on to detail briefly the evidence in the various charges, and said that on this evidence he anticipated that the jury would have no difficulty in coming to a decision. The duty of the grand jury, he pointed out, was to consider this evidence, and if it were sufficient to warrant the accused standing trial, it would return a true bill.
The jury returned a true bill in all cases.
The trial of Henry Arthur _ Hirt on a charge of unlawfully using an instrument was then commenced, and was proceeding when the court adjourned at 5 p.m.
