A HOUSING PROBLEM
Sir,—After searching for several weeks in vain for a house to rent, I am beginning to think it is a hopeless task. The fact of my having three small children is definitely not in my favour. To be the proud possessor of a couple of poodles would be to my advantage when I am house-hunting, but naturally I prefer my children. On tuning into a local station on a recent Sunday morning I heard the quotation. " What greater gift could God bestow than the gift of a child?" One wonders. In a country where the declining birthrate is causing concern, it is riot very encouraging to see in "To Let" columns the qualification " No children; adults only," etc. After showing excellent rent books and references the personal questions one is asked regarding private banking accounts, reasons for shifting, etc., are. to say the leastwell, words fail me. I would suggest that something should be done immediately to rectify such a deplorable state of affairs.—l am, etc., Dunedin, June 22. Sham us.
