"MORE AID TO RUSSIA"
Sir,—Those who cry " More aid to Russia," and agitate regarding it, entirely misconceive the position, and show themselves quite unfitted to voice any opinion in the matter. Britain, the United States of America, and Soviet Russia are now militarily and otherwise a united whole in a . total war against a united Germany, Italy, and Japan. They have a common planning and strategy, they act in concert, the wants of each front in relation to the whole are duly considered in conference, and no question of more aid from the one to the other, as a separate entity, arises. The "More aid to Russia" agitation presents a oneeyed and fallacious view of the position, and is as absurd as to expect a cry within Russia for more aid to Australia, or a shout in Germany for more aid to Italy. Britain has a very heavy burden, and her leaders may be at fault (probably have been), but surely it takes a high measure of assurance for unaccredited and technically ignorant citizens at the antipodes to take upon themselves the role of strategists and advisers.—l am, etc., Dunedin, June 20. Less S-aid.
