PATRIOTIC COUNCIL

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE A meeting of the executive of the Otago Provincial 'Patriotic Council was held yesterday afternoon and was attended by the Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen), in the chair, and Messrs J. Sutherland Ross, Edgar Hazlett, J. L. Salmond, James Hogg, W. G. Kindley, A. C. Cameron, J. J. Marlow, W. Begg and Dr Newlands. Financial Mr Hazlett, ■ chairman of the Finance Committee, recommended the payment of accounts amounting to £402 6s 4d. He said that a large proportion of this amount was.for repairs, etc., to the Services Club in Dowling street. Mr Hazlett said that the secretary of the council (Mr A. E. Russell) had placed 10 cases of apples on the train for the Otago and Southland soldiers going away that day. The recommendation was approved. Dunedin District Zone The sub-committee appointed to go into the question of setting up a Dunedin district zone submitted its report. It was explained that Dunedin and St. Kilda had never had a zone, and it was considered that it would provide a better status if such a zone were appointed. The Dunedin District Zone Committee will include, (a) a representative of the seven sub-zones (Palmerston, Waikouaiti, Port Chalmers, Peninsula, Green IslaQd. Taieri and West Harbour); (b) some members of the provincial executive not representing a zone, public body or co-opted organisation. The members concerned are Messrs James Hogg, W. G. Kindley, Arthur Barnett, Edgar Hazlett, H. McDowellSmith, A. C. Cameron, G.' Z. Lindley and Dr Newlands; (c) approximately 12 citizens who have taken a leading part in Dunedin City and St. Kilda collections. Those appointed under (b) and (c) will constitute a Dunedin and St. Kilda Sub-zone Committee to undertake the raising of Dunedin and St. Kilda's quota of any appeal and have the same status as the other seven sub-zone committees in the Dunedin district zone. The Dunedin District Zone Committee will comprise the following:— Messrs H. C. Harford, S. P. Cameron, H. L. Paterson, W. A. Jenkins, H. L. Longbottom, I. S. Cantrell, L. A. Doolan. James Caldwell D. Vorley, H. I. Sinclair, Les Fisher, G. W. Lane, N. D. Anderson (Mayor of St. Kilda>, and a representative of the Public Service Association. More Wool Wanted

iA. letter was received from the secretary of the National Fund Board regarding knitted goods retirements for 1942. It was stated tnat Otago's quota was 5300 balaclavas, 5300 scarves, 5300 mittens and 16,000 sox. The advice before the council was that the 8001 b of wool per month allotted Otago was not nearly enough to meet requirements and that amount had not always come to hand. It was decided to inform the secretary of the National Fund Board of the position.
