TAHAKOPA
Rainfall for April.-Raln fell 0n23 days during April at Tahakopa. and the total for the month was 8.42 inches. The heaviest rainfall for 24 hours occurred on April 3, when 1.47 in were recorded. The weather during the past six weeks has been cold and wintry, but present indications are that better weather may be exDected. Presentation to Teacher.—There was a large attendance of parents and friends at the Tahakopa School on Friday afternoon when a presentation was made to Miss M. Simpson, who has occupied the position of assistant for the past four years. One of the senior pupils. Jack Griffin, was chairman, and Nancy Harrington, a senior girl, made a presentation to Miss Simpson on behalf of the pupils of the school. Mrs W. Pullar. on behalf of the parents and friends in the district, presented Miss Simpson with a travelling rug. At a meeting of the Catlins Teachers' Discussion Circle, held at Maclcnnan. the president. Mr L. Cannon, presented Miss Simpson with a volume. Miss Simpson suitably replied. Home Guard.— About 70 Home Guard members attended a military lecture at Maclennan on Wednesday night. Captain Roy. battalion commander, spoke on target's and machine guns.
