EXHIBITION VISITS
SCHOOL CHILDREN'S TRIPS LIABILITY FOR ACCIDENTS (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 24. The opinions of members of the Auckland Education Board, expressed at a meeting to-day, indicated emphatic objection to permitting children to attend the Centennial Exhibition under" the aegis of teachers. The point arose when the Education Department advised that the board would be liable for accidents to children during visits to the Exhibition and pointed out that a great responsibility would devolve upon teachers The department explained that the liability would be similar to that involved when a party of children under a teacher went by tram to a museum. Several members said that, in such circumstances, trips to Wellington should not be encouraged, but that if children wished to go they should be under the control of their parents. Mr A. Burns, M.L.C.. said the liability for accident should properly rest on trie State. Two cases of accidents in schools where the liability for the accident was met by the State were cited. The board received the letter, and took no action, the understanding being that future applications by parties of scjiool children would be considered in the light of the question of liability. __^^^_^ ====== .
