TRAINING FOR LIFE
This is not ap age, if ever there was an age, when men can rely on tradition or custom, writes the Bishop of Chichester, Dr Bell, in his book, , God Above the Nation.” There must oe a systematic teaching of Christian doctrine to the rising generation: the doctrine of the sovereignty of God. the mediation of Christ, the santification of the Spirit: a doctrine which belongs to the whole Christian Church, and has meaning for everyone: a doctrine which is coherent: a doctrine which has given courage and illumination for this life, and secure hope for the life to come, to generations of believers of most different races and peoples. Christian doctrine is the most important study of all It is more important than science, more important that the classics, or ancient or modern history, more important than economics or languages, although none will question the value of these studies. The study of Christianity is a priceless study; for without it all other studies lack the chief equipment in training for life. Without it. you have no sure basis for a common ethos to govern the relations of nations with one another.
