CHRISTCHURCH COMPETITION <Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 14. The Canterbury Cricket competition matches were started today in fine weather. The wickets and outfields were slow, and scoring generally was-inconsistent. Playing for Old Boys, last year's champion team, R E. J.' Menzies made a fine 119 in less than two hours. He gave no chandes and hit 15 4‘s. The following were the scores:— Old Boys, 356 (Menzies 119, Anderson 70,. Harbidge 54; Knowles three for 66. E. Mulcock four for 110). met St. Albans. 14 for one, ~ Riccarton, 170 (Mahoney 43, Ellis 41; Mapplebdck three for 36. Read three for 44). met Lancaster Park, 68 for two • East Christchurch. 11l (Davis 25; Lester four for 41. Alpers three for 16, Olllyier three for 29) and 38 for two, met Old Collegians, 69 (Patrick four for 27). West Christchurch, 329 for 8 (Donnell- 78, Harper 71 not out, Nee 56, Kerr. 45, Burton 40; Spong four for 63), met Sydenham.
