THE V.A.T.C. MEETING HIGH CASTE WINS GUINEAS RESPIRATOR SUCCESSFUL (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) MELBOURNE. Oct. 14. (Received Oct. 15, at 7 p.m.) The weather was fine but dull for the opening day of the Victoria Amateur Turf Club meeting at Caulfield. Pantoon, raced and trained by Jack Fryer, finished strongly to win the 1010 Welter. John Dory was a promising third. Pantoon secured thirds in his previous two starts and should prove a good stake winner. Florin won the Debutant Stakes tor colts and geldings, in the last stride. He cost 300 guineas as a yearling, and wate second at Flemlngton last week, Procyon tried to lead always. Trueness, the Gimerack Stakes winner, finished brilliantly in the Debutante Stakes for fillies. She has had two wins in two starts and cost 550 guineas as a yearling. Heart’s Desire ran a good race, and Much to Say finished well. High Caste had an effortless victory in the Caulfield Guineas, making his third successive win. He cost £7OOO and has won approximately £II,OOO in stakes for his present owner. His trainer, J. T. Jamieson, won the Guineas previously with Ammon Ra. Reading essayed to lead always, but was outclassed in the final stages. High Caste has been unbeaten in his four starts here. Respirator enhanced his Caulfield Cup chance by winning the Herbert Power Handicap. He was last early, but finished brilliantly and gave his rider, Bartle. his third successive win. Hilton, owned by the former New Zealander. Mr W R. Kemball. finished brilliantly to win the Toorak Handicap. He was bred in New Zealand. Following are the results:— lOLO WELTER HANDICAP, Of £SOO. The Club Welter Handicap was won by Cherrybar from Moorsotis and Breeze. The Flying Handicap was won by Denis from Brazandt and Might Not. Won by a length and three-quarters. Time, Imin 40sec. Huntsman finished second in the Flying Handicap, which was won by Royal Rivoli.
