THE BEER "STRIKE"
■TO JHB/ EDITOR '"■/■
Sir,—The beer-drinkers' strike; is surely the' strike of the century. Long may if .lastf. If the p66r thirsty souls can work up courage enough to: curb their appetites, surely, now. that they are supported by. the tramway xrien, they will-hold out.; and keep it up. -till the hotels give in or go on'the, dole. But why did these men not have courage enough to' strike when food and clothes went up? Surely this was more important, but of course it affected the wives and families only. Besides, the head of the house must have cheap beer or he would not get enough of it, and. being a dictator, he, must be obeyed." Now what about the hotelkeepers?" "Are they going, to own that they must obey these dictators, or will they decide to get along on the custom of law-abiding , citizens? If all the thirsty strikers will go on a three •months' water diet, they will, at the end. bid fair to become a. greater credit to their town and country '.— l am, etc., Not Thirsty.
