AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP There was a good attendance at the R.S.A. Club room on Saturday night to witness the semi-final tie in the Otago amateur championship. The contestants were C. Mason and A. Bowie, and both players gave clever exhibitions. Mason led in the early stages, but the olavers were level at the first century mark. With a series of useful breaks Mason forged ahead to lead 242—191. Bowie however at this stage showed brilliant form and rattled up 55 20 and 48 in three visits, and led 402—319 Mason then struck form and quickly reduced the leeway, scoring 200 points to his opponent's 10. Mason maintained his advantage to the end and ran out winner the final scores being:— Mason .. • • 666 Bowie •. 546 Mason scored breaks of 59, 48, 30, 28, 25. 23. and 20 (twice), and Bowie 58. 47, 38, 28. 25. 23, and 21. The winner averaged 11 points per visit. The final will be played to-day and to-morrow in two sessions of 500 Mason will play the title-holdc Stewart.
