THE Otago Daily Times. “Inveniam viam aut faciam.” [Established November 15, 1861.) DUNEDIN, FRIDAY, AUGUST 14, 1868.

SEVENTY-ONE YEARS AGO

The Lawrence Correspondent of the "Bruce Herald," writing to that paper, says:—" The parties who are working the cement at Wetherstones are sanguine of being well remunerated for their labor; should this turn out well, an additional impulse to mining will be the result. The Blue Spur, day by day, is changing its appearance, and I prognosticate that a good deal of litigation will be the consequence of the land of one party slipping into the claim of another. Water is now more abundant, and the various claims are in full work."

An extraordinary general meeting of shareholders in the Dunedin Water Works Company is to be held this afternoon, at three o'clock, in Messrs Gillies and Street's large room, "for the purpose of considering an interim report from the Directors of the Company, and authorising and declaring an interim dividend."

" The " Bruce Herald" feels "it pleasant to record another instance of that kind and neighborly feeling which induces our settlers to assist beginners on their entrance upon new farms. With this laudable object in view, on Tuesday. *he 4th instant, the neighbors of Mr Fraser, who has recently purchased the farm lately occupied by Mr J. P. Mundell. and situate in South Tokofnairiro sent forward 19 teams to give him a day's ploughing. We understand that nearly 19 acres were turned over in good style The ploughmen were hospitably entertained b> Mr Fraser, and after finishing their pleasant duty of giving him a 'lift,' they returned to theic respective homes, cordially wishing Mr Fraser success in his new undertaking."
