TRAGIC MOTOR SMASH
YOUNG WOMAN KILLED YOUTH SERIOUSLY INJURED CAR COLLIDES WITH LORRY fpER United Press Association; MASTERTON, Aug. 10. A tragic motor smash occurred near Carterton between 1 and 2 o’clock this morning, as the result of which Eleanor Irene Stubbs, the second daughter of Mrs and the late Mr A. F. Stubbs, of Carterton, was fatally injured, and Warren Burling, aged 18, the son of Mr and Mrs C. A. Burling, of Akura, was seriously injured. A ssdan car. driven by Warren Burling, with Miss Stubbs as passenger, was proceeding southward to Carterton, and a lorry owned by Mr Bernley, of Masterton. who was a Eassenger in the vehicle,' and driven y Mr Ronald, was proceeding to Masterton behind another vehicle driven by Mr Alexander. It appears that Buriing’s car had passed the .first motor vehicle when a collision occurred with Brenley’s lorry. The car appears to have struck the lorry behind the driver’s seat. Miss Stubbs was alive, but died on the way to the hospital at Carterton. Burling was seriously injured, and removed to the hospital at Carterton.
