CHARGE OF SNOBBERY

WRATHFUL INDIGNATION MEMBER CALLED TO ORDER DECORUM OF HOUSE UPSET ‘From Our Parliamentary Reporter* WELLINGTON, Aug. 10. An allegation by one member that another member of the House had displayed “ unlimited snobbery ” in reference to him led to the intervention of the Speaker (Mr W. E. Barnard) during the debate on the Financial Statement in the House of Representatives to-night. Mr W. M. C. Denham (Govt., Invercargill) claimed that Mr-Har-gest (Opposition, Awarua) had said that he (Mr Denham) was of no importance. “ Colossal cheek. Unmitigated snobbery,” Mr Denham said. Mr Speaker: Order! Order! The hon. member must withdraw.

Mr Denham: I am sorry, Sir. I am withdrawing the term only because you ask me to. Mr Denham added that he would describe the statement made about him as unmitigated effrontery.
