NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA THE VISITORS LEADING MELBOURNE, Aug. 9. Plav in the first night of the badminton test left New Zealand leading Australia by 156 points to 154. Spedding defeated Tonkin 15—14 j 5 7 McCabe and Miss Robert defeated Roussell and Miss Fleming 15—8, Harper and Miss Hewitt defeated Pearce and Miss Kerr 15—6, 15—10. Miss Kerr defeated Mrs Wray B—ll,ll-1,11-7. Mrs Hawksworth defeated Miss Hewitt 11-6. 11-4. Harper and Tonkin defeated Rousr.ell and Spedding 15—11, 16—18, 15—11. Hawksworth was unable to play owing to illness.
