BRITISH STATESMEN

UNFAIR CRITICISM DEPRECATED BY CHANCELLOR LONDON, Aug. 7. Sir John Simon, speaking at the Blenheim Palace garden fete, deprecated unfair criticism of Mr Chamberlain and Lord Halifax. He pointed out that the cheerful holiday crowds which, despite anxiety throughout the year, were still living in peace owed a lot to Mr Chamberlain's efforts. He added that war Dostponed might be war averted. The British Army's spirit and efficiency were the measure of the nation's readiness and confidence. " Let us be of good courage," he said, "for the strong hearts and cool heads of the British people will see this business through."
