GERMAN COAL EXPORTS
A CONSIDERABLE DECREASE LONDON, Aug. 8. (Received Aug. 9, at 1 a.m.) While British coal exports were 1,000,000 tons above last year's German exports were down 3,500,000 tons for five months ending May 31. Production nevertheless increased almost as much as Britain's, yet the total coal imports increased by 16 per cent, largely from Britain. Armaments made the heaviest calls on the German coal trade. Owing to the urgent need of an increase in the output General Goering has appointed Dr Walter special commissioner for coal production.
