TAMMANY HALL CASE

THE PRINCIPAL WITNESS MARRIAGE TO SHOWGIRL NEW YORK, Aug. 7. "Dixie" Davis to-day married secretly a showgirl, Hope Dare, for whom he gave evidence for the orosecution in the case against the Tammany leader, Hines. Davis was released from gaol 10 days ago. A police court judge officiated, and the witnesses were detectives assigned to protect Davis prior to his testifying in Hines's appeal. The couple were whisked away to a " hideout" in the Rockland Hills.

A message received in July of last year stated:—" Dixie " Davis, whose name was mentioned in connection with the arrest of James Hines on lottery charges, has reversed his plea, and will plead guilty. Davis, who has turned State's evidence, is expected to be the most important witness against the district leader of Tammany Hall. Mr Thomas Dewey (prosecutor) declared that Davis now has fears for his life if he remains in the city gaol, and he has secured a parole for Davis, who will be afforded police protection. A message which came in March of this year stated:—Hines was sentenced to eight years' imprisonment. He is ineligible for parole for three years. The judge commented that he was impressed with the evidence that Hines used his political power to influence the police and certain magistrates. If he was not 62 years of age he would have imposed a more severe sentence.
