OTAGO-SOUTHLAND MATCH LOCAL REFEREE TO ACT A decision to appoint a Southland referee to control the Ranfurly Shield match between Otago and Southland at Rugby Park on July 29 was made at a meeting of the Management Committee of the Southland Rugby Football Union. The Otago Rugby Football Union advised that it was agreeable to leave the appointment of the referee for the shield match entirely in the hands of the Southland Union. Mr A. J. Geddes moved that a local referee take the game, and that the Appointment Board submit names to the union. The motion was seconded by Mr W. Baird and carried. Permission to hold a parade at Rugby Park on July 29, the day of the Ranfurly Shield match, was granted to the Southland Territorial Force Association. The parade, which will number about 150, will be admitted to the ground free of charge. The purpose of the parade is to assist the Government’s recruiting campaign. Messrs T. R. Pryde and H. J. Brown were appointed joint managers of the touring team. Mr P. P. Meffin was appointed manager of the team to play the return game with Otago at Dunedin for the Ranfurly Shield. OTAGO SUB-UNIONS’ TEAM APPOINTMENT OF MANAGER Mr A. Marslin has been appointed from the four nominations received for the position to act as manager of the Otago Sub-unions’ team which is to play the Southland Sub-unions’ team at Invercargill on July 22. A ballot was held by the Management Committee of the O.R.F.U. to reach the decision.
