DRUIDISM

The fortnightly meeting of Royal Oak Lodge was held on Monday night. A.D. Bro. Middlemiss presiding over a fair attendance of members. D.P, Bro. Leßrun was present in his official capacity and. during the evening installed the following officers for the current term;—A. Druid. Bro. G. F. Murray; V. Arch. Bro. C, R. Jones; Treas. Bro. A. Mitchell; M.C., Bro. A. E. Churchill; 1.G., Bro. E. F. Jones; 0.G.. Bro L. E. McKeich; A.D. Bards, Bros. J. Johnston and h. Rackley; VA. Bards, Bros. L. Popham and W. Hundson; Min. Sec., Bro. W. R. Hudson. D.P, Bro. Leßrun, who was assisted by Sec. Bro. A. J. Hinton, was accorded a vote of thanks for the efficient manner in which he carried out his duties. Notification of the annual church parade on August 6 was received, It was decided to support the proposal for the Publicity campaign suggested by the Otago Friendly Societies’ Council. Sick pay passed for payment was somewhat less than the high amount of late. Two funeral claims, each of £7O. were also passed It was decided to invite all lodges to attend the euchre tournament to be held on the next three lodge nights, and donations of prizes for each night offered by several brethren, were gratefully acknowledged. The secretary produced the half-yearly balance sheet, and this was received and adopted along with the auditor’s report. Arch Druid Bro. P. Rees presided over the anniversary meeting of Progress Juvenile Lodge on Wednesday. Routine business was quickly despatched, and a large muster of parents and visitors were admitted. Grand President Bro. A J. Hinton accompanied by P.D.P. Bro. Paterson attended in his official capacity The Arch Druid in a neat little speech, extended a warm welcome to the Grand President parents -and visitors. The following items were thoroughly enjoyed:—Mouth organ solos Bros Harris and Paterson; recitations, Miss Smith and Bro, G. A. Durable: address. G.P. Bro. A. J. Hinton; stories, Superintendent Bro. H. Hunt; play members of Progress. Lodge: Irish jig Miss Smith; three-act “skit,” Bro. Smith Conductor Bro. Carson thanked all who had contributed items, also the Women’s Committee for its work after which "Auld Lang Syne ” was sung and an enjoyable evening was closed. Arch Druid Bro. Neame presided over a record attendance of members and visitors at the last meeting of Ivanhoe Lodge. Included in the correspondence was an invitation to the Past Arches to attend the meeting of the Royal Arch on Tuesday It was decided that the N.A., A.D and PA. charges competition to be held next lodge night would be open to all Druids. The secretary reported that the balance sheet would be presented to the lodge at next meeting. The lodge disposed of business early and handed the meeting over to the presidents of Nos. 1 and 2 districts, the occasion being the combined Druids’ entertaining of the lady Foresters some 20 of whom were introduced by D.P Bro. R. Morrison D.P Bro. Leßrun extended to them a true Druidic welcome The Chief Ranger suitably replied. The wives and women friends of Druids were then admitted and the evening was spent in dancing. Bro C. Wilson acting as M.C. This was an important night for Ivanhoe. and the hall was filled to capacity by happy couples who thoroughly enjoyed the dances. Last Saturday night the Loyal Arch Chapter conducted the Ross Stewart Shield competition in the Ivanhoe Lodge room. Although the number of teams competing was disappointing, the high standard displayed by the entrants was an inspiration to the large number of Druids who were present as spectators. The. Acorn Lodge team, which had travelled from Invercargill to compete. was declared the winner, with the Bay Lodge team a close second. The judges were Past District Presidents Bros. A. Bundle, A. Durable and F. E. Reeves. At the conclusion of the reports, the judge, R.A.D. Bro N Ingle, presented the shield to the Arch Druid of the winning team. P.G.P. Bro Stewart, who very suitably replied. Arch Druid Bro. R. Carr presided over the regular meeting of the Lily of the Valley No. 11 on Wednesday, when P.D.P. Bro. A. Walker was a welcome visitor. Invitations' were received to attend the following meetings:—The Royal Arch Chapter, on Tuesday: euchre evenings' at' Royal Oak Lodge, on July 17. 31 and August 14; the ritual competitions at Ivanhoe Lodge on Wednesday. Notification was received that the annual church parade will be held on August 6 at First Church. The return visit to Court Woodlands Pride (Lady Foresters) will take place on August 21. Sick pay* amounting to £lO 10s, was passed for payment. The balance sheet was received and adopted. Auditor Bro A. Walker tendered his report and received a hearty vote of thanks. Treas. Bro N. Ingle reported on attending All Nations Lodge. P.A. Bro. H. Green reported on the combined Druids Lodges’ evening to the Court Woodlands Pride Lodge; Notice was received that the Grand Lodge officers and Board of Management will be in attendance next Lodge night.
