MODERN MACHINERY
CLEARING BUSH LAND THE GOVERNMENT’S PLAN EARLY PUBLIC DEMONSTRATION (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 9. Much of the machinery and .plant which would be used ' for a public demonstration of the practicability of the Government’s plan to clear bush and drain low-lying land had already arrived in the Dominion, said the Minister of Labour (Mr P. C. Webb) in an interview. The rest of the plant was expected soon. The demonstration would be made at Westport very shortly, although an approximate date had not yet been decided. While he was in Southland, Dunedin and Central Otago last week, Mr Webb said, numerous requests had been put to him by farmers to have demonstrations made in their localities. If the machinery was the success he anticipated, there was no doubt that there would be an irresistible demand by the farmers affected throughout New Zealand. He was confident of that, because the Dominion had thousands of acres of good land near the railways and good roads Which, because of stumps and logs, was out of production.
