NUNNELEY CASKET MATCH CANTERBURY IN THE LEAD (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 9. .In an interprovincial lawn tennis match for the Nunneley Casket, Can-, terbury gained a lead on the first' day of five rubbers to one over the challenger, Wellington'. The match ' was played in hot. sunny weather, but a violent north-west gale made playing conditions very difficult. Wellington’s only success was gained by Miss Douthett against Miss I. Poole, who subsequently had to withdraw from the cohtest because of a badly strained arm. Results:— . Singles Miss T. Poole (Canterbury) beat Miss E. Plummer (Wellington) 6 —o, 6—4. ’ Miss J. Douthett (Wellington) beat Miss I. Poole (Canterbury) 6—l, 6—l. Miss D. Dickey (Canterbury) beat Miss J. Bedford (Wellington) 6—3, 5—7, 6—o. . Miss H. Elsom (Canterbury) beat Miss J.
