STRUCK FROM BEHIND ASSAILANT SENT TO HOSPITAL NEW YORK, Dec. 20. (Received Dec. 21, at 11 p.m.) Shouting "I have been after you for four years," James Hagan, aged 48, struck down the Mayor. Mr La Guardia, from behind on the steps of the City Hall. Mr La Guardia came up fighting, and the pair traded ounches until they lost their footing and rolled down the steps. A chauffeur jumped on Hagan's chest and the Mayor grabbed his legs, and they carried Hagan bodily to the office.

Hagan, who is unemployed, has been sent to hospital for observation.

The Mayor was shaken and also injured under one of his eyes.
