FREE KINDERGARTENS
MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETING * The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Free Kindergarten Council was held on Thursday afternoon, when Mrs G. S. M. Batham (acting president) occupied the chair, and the following -members were present:—Lady Allen, Lady Hutchison, Mesdames Dykes, , Gallaway, Garrett. Glendining, Haggitt, Harty, Mac Lean, Melville, Moodie Shand, Sim, Smeaton, Smith and Stuart, and Misses Scott and Ulrich. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mesdames. Gallaway and Smeaton and the members of their committee, who had worked to make the recent ball the success it was. After all expenses had been paid £SB had been handed over to the general funds. During the month the R. S. Reynolds Committee had organised a jumble sale and raised £ll 10s 3d for that kindergarten. A special word of appreciation was expressed to the mothers at Kelsey-Yaralla Kindergarten, who. by means of a "bottle drive," had raised £l9 towards the erection of a shed there. It was reported that Mrs R. A. Ewing, president of the Kindergarten Association, was returning to Dunedin next week after an extended tour abroad. It was agreed to arrange a function to welcome her back. Pleasure was expressed at the action of the Combined Mothers' Group in purchasing a rosebowl to be known as the Dutton Memorial Bowl, and to be competed for each year at the group competitions. It was reported that the students' handwork display had been held last week. Many ingenious toys had been shown, made from new and waste materials, and the most suitable had been chosen to be sent to the kindergarten exhibit at the Centennial Exhibition in Wellington next year.
