FINAL COMMUNITY SING

The final community sing of the 1938 season will take place on Wednesday in frhe Town ,Hall at 8 t>.m. Admission will be free, but a collection will be taken up for the Mayor's Relief of Distress Fund. A box plan was opened yesterday at Begg's for those who wish to make sure of a seat. A special programme has been arranged, and the following will assist:—Muriel Caddie and Noeline Plank, piano accordeon duettists; Archie Jones, tenor; the Puketeraki Maori party, ha'kas, dances and Maori songs; Frank Squire, pianist of the Christchurch sings last year, who has offered to come down and Dlay duets with Mr A. Pettitt, the Dunedin pianist. Another attraction (by special reauest) will be the appearance of "Peggy" in full Irish costume. Begg's Orchestra 4 will be in attendance and will plav popular items from 7.30. The leaders, Messrs H. P. Desmoulins and J. F. Himburg, will be in charge, and Mr Pettitt will be at the piano. This will be the last opportunity to send cheerios and donations, and Mr Himburg (secretary) would be pleased to receive them early. An admirer has sent in a Fair Isle pullover, bottle green and fawn in colour, which will be sold. Mr Hogg has consented to lend his sound system. A supply of heather has been sent out from Scotland and will ■be sold in bunches.
